Gurlen district is located in the north of Khorezm region, its area is 447.4 sq. km. Gurlen district occupies 7.3% of the region's territory. Amu Darya flows through the eastern part of the district. It borders with Yangibazar in the south, Shavat in the west, Tozabazar in Turkmenistan, Amu Darya in Karakalpakstan. The district center is located 36 km from the city of Urgench, 15 km from the railway station of Shavat. Latitude is 41 degrees, 30 minutes, altitude is 110 m above sea level. The northernmost point of the district corresponds to the Nurmonbobo grove near the village of Olchin in Gurlen district.
