Shafirkan district is located in the northern part of Bukhara region. The district was founded on September 29, 1926. In the north it borders with Kanimekh district of Navoi region, in the south – Vobkent and Peshkun districts of Bukhara region, in the west – Peshkun district, and in the east – Gijduvan district. The area of Vobkent district is 3.72 thousand square kilometers. The length of the district borders is 305 km, including 93 km with Navoi region, 6 km with Vobkent district, 106 km with Peshkun district, 100 km with Gijduvan district. As of January 1, 20232, the population of the Shafirkan district was 184.3 thousand people (including 92.9 thousand men and 91.4 thousand women), of which 141.7 thousand people (77%) were living in rural areas and 42.6 thousand people (23%) were living in cities. The population density in the district is 49.5 people per 1 sq. km. As of January 1, 2023, the total number of economically active population was 76.7 thousand people, including 69.6 thousand employed people and 7.1 thousand unemployed people. There are 50 mahalla citizens' assemblies and 36.3 thousand households in the district. The center of the district is the city of Shafirkan.
