In 170 mahallas in Karakalpakstan, Bukhara, Navoi, and Khorezm regions, residents themselves determined what was most important to them - roads, schools, kindergartens, water, or electricity - and took responsibility for changes through community development plans.
Results are already tangible:
168 roads were repaired.
electricity networks have been improved in 147 mahallas.
128 schools have been renovated or built
89 kindergartens have been opened or renovated.
895 subprojects are being implemented, which will improve the lives of more than 700 thousand people.
The key to success is the participation of the residents themselves.
The initiative groups included 1,383 people, including 411 women, and more than 3,300 residents were trained in project management and monitoring. Many mahallas also attracted additional funding through the Open Budget platform.
Today, this experience is being expanded: the second phase of the project is already being implemented in Samarkand, Surkhandarya, and Kashkadarya regions. It confirms a simple truth - sustainable change begins where communities are trusted.
