Initiative groups occupy an important place in the life of the mahalla. They help identify the needs of residents, determine priority development areas, and involve the population in decision-making processes.
Since the beginning of 2026, specialists from the Rural Sustainable Development Initiative have revised and updated the compositions of initiative groups in target mahallas in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as the Bukhara, Navoi, and Khorezm regions. This work is aimed at expanding the participation of local residents, including women and youth.
To date, 1409 initiative group members have been operating in 170 mahallas across these regions. Out of these, 386 are women, accounting for 27 percent of the total.
This is another important step toward forming sustainable communities where decisions are made taking into account the opinions and real needs of residents.
