Construction works will start within the framework of the Sustainable Rural Development Project

In 4 regions of our country – the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Bukhara, and Navoi regions, the Joint Projects Implementation Group under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan is implementing the Sustainable Rural Development Project aimed at the development of infrastructure, social sphere, and employment.

Under the project, road and transportation infrastructureengineering and communication networks, and power supply systems will be improved in 170 mahallas of 20 districts of the country, and resource-saving and environmentally friendly technologies will be applied in the construction and reconstruction of social facilities - kindergartens and schools. It is planned to improve the living standards of about 710,000 people. Most importantly, the listed tasks were formed based on the requests and needs of the local population in the target areas.

The total cost of the project, including loans from the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC International Development Fund, as well as the share of the UN Development Program and our country, is 338 million dollars.

To date, within the framework of the Sustainable Rural Development Project, preliminary tenders have been held to identify contractors for the reconstruction of 71 social facilities – schools, preschool educational organizations, medical centers, as well as 40 community-managed mahalla complexes.

Also, the tender to attract a foreign consulting company providing consulting services on technical expertise and contract management for subprojects selected under the project has been finalized, and the tender to attract 4 local consulting companies is ongoing.

At the same time, an agreement was signed with International Financial Institutions for 260 million dollars to improve the lifestyle of the population in remote areas of SamarkandKashkadarya, and Surkhandarya regions by implementing the second phase of the project in the coming years.
