Gijduvan district is located in the north-eastern part of the Bukhara region. The district was founded on September 29, 1926. In the north, east and south it borders with the Kanimekh, Nurata, Kyzyltepa districts of the Navoi region, and in the southwest and west it borders with the Vabkent and Shafirkan districts of the Bukhara region. The area of the Gijduvan district is 384.07 thousand hectares (3.84 thousand sq. km). The length of the district's borders is 376 km, including 250 km with the Navoi region, 100 km with the Shafirkan district, and 26 km with the Vabkent district. As of January 1, 20231, the population of the Gijduvan district was 317.1 thousand people, of which 225.2 thousand people (71%) were living in rural areas and 91.9 thousand people (29%) were living in cities. The population is mainly Uzbeks (98.6%), as well as representatives of Tajik (0.4%), Russian (0.2%) and other nationalities. There are 75 mahalla citizens' assemblies and 62.8 thousand households in the district. The center of the district is the city of Gijduvan. The district includes: City of regional subordination - Gijduvan, 14 pcs. city and 61 mahalla citizens’ gatherings.
