Takhiatash district was formed in the Republic of Karakalpakstan in 2017 at the proposal of the Jokarghi Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan in accordance with Article 69 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Article 2 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the procedure for resolving issues of administrative-territorial structure in the Republic of Uzbekistan". The Resolution of the Council of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated August 9, 2017 No. 1004-III "On the formation of Takhiatash district on the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan" was adopted. The territories of the Rural Citizens' Assemblies "Keneges", "Saraikol" and "Naimankol" of the Khodjeyli district were annexed to the territory of Takhiatash district.
