The Beruniy district is located in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and got its name from the city of Beruni, which was previously called Shabbaz. The modern name was given to the city in honor of the scientist of Central Asia - Abu Reyhan Muhammad ibn Ahmed al-Beruni. The settlement was given the status of a city in 1962. The territory of the Beruniy district occupies the right bank of the Amu Darya. 255 thousand hectares are the Kyzylkum desert, the Sultan Vaysa mountain ("Sultauizdag"), the Badai tugay reserve, the natural reservoirs of Akchakul, Ayazkul, Moshlikul, Chakkakul, Akkul and Palvashkul. The Sultan Vaysa mountains are located at a level of 473 meters above sea level, under it there are deposits of marble, granite, basalt, lime and other minerals. The district has a sharp continental climate. In summer, the air temperature is 38-40 degrees Celsius, in winter it drops to 30 degrees Celsius. Cold weather lasts 70-80 days. Underground waters are located at a depth of 0.5 meters to 3 meters. In the Beruni district, there are historical sites Katkala, Filkala, Kizilkala, Akchakala, Karatepa, Ayazkala, the Sultan Vays Baba mosque, as well as more than ten archaeological sites. In the city of Beruni, there is a museum where exhibits of the history of the city and the region are exhibited.
